I ended the last blog with a statement about having the ability to successfully negotiate the terrain of life because of the God that I enjoy having in control of my life. Each day that I see is a blessing and has been lovingly and specifically designed for my own personal growth and development. Because I have been fearfully and wonderfully made by a creator who never leaves His creation, I have the assurance that I will be successful in my trek through the time that has been allotted to me in this world. God is one that can be counted as faithful in keeping His promises and in making provisions for the inhabitants of this terrestrial ball.
This morning I woke up after sleeping in a bed that is in a house that has a roof that was not leaking over me; and while it was freezing outside, I was warm and cozy under the quilt that was made by the hands of my spouse who had made sure that I had something to eat when I arrived at home from my trek to church. The car that I drove those 165 miles to church was still in the garage attached to the house, and I did not have to scrape ice from the windshield or to fix a flat before I got into it.
As I drove away from home in another vehicle that had a working heater in it, I was grateful because the external temperature was only 13 degrees Fahrenheit. I looked at the fuel gauge to see that I had sufficient gas to get to the job that provides me a way to pay the bills that I have to pay. My overcoat was a welcome covering to my body clad in a two piece business suit with a white shirt accented by a nice necktie that went perfectly with the suit.
Before leaving home, I made sure that I had let down the garage door. Its descent assured me that the electricity was still on. As I looked at the house, I could see a wisp of vapor rising from the pipes that vented the heating system. The place looked to be quite secure. My hands felt a little bit chilly even though I had on my genuine leather gloves. Ever since I experienced that mild case of frostbite while I was stationed in Germany, my extremities always seem to get cold easily. But I’m glad that they are all intact.
I made sure that I had my bag with my laptop computer in it and my box of Nutri-Grain bars. It was also important for me to stop by the post office and mail the payments that I had to send to members of the convention. Unfortunately, I had left the laptop for the convention at home yesterday when I left for the meeting 170 miles away. It was nice to ride in the car that my late uncle had bequeathed to me. The 344 mile trip was uneventful, and I got back in plenty of time to do some other work that I wasn’t able to do while I was there. I’m thankful that the lunch that I ate didn’t make me sleepy as I drove back home alone. The navigation system in the car and satellite radio served as good companions on the trip.
It was also a blessing to hear from my loving wife along the way. My cell phone had adequate power and connectivity so that we could chat briefly as I drove back. When she heard that I was on the way back home, she seemed so delighted. I was too. The meeting was not too long. I had to rise early and get there before the meeting because I not only had to receive registration from some attendees, but I was also asked to make a thematic presentation for the new emphasis of the convention. It seemed to go well.
You may be waiting on me to enumerate my blessings for you, but they are too numerous for me to list them all. I’m glad to be alive and breathing with a reasonable portion of health and strength. My mind has not totally gone, and I need to read some more of the textbook that I have for my class. That is a good place to end.
