Thanksgiving? Yes, Thanksgiving

With the recent events taking place in our country and around the world, how can we celebrate Thanksgiving? It is easier than you might think. Simply because our world is in turmoil and people are acting more like animals than human beings doesn’t mean that we don’t have something for which we should be grateful. The small thing really add up to a lot.

Just as the beach is made up of single grains of sand and mountains are made up of small particles of dirt, our blessings may be small when considered by themselves. However, if we consider all the things that we take for granted on a daily basis, we have a multitude of things for which we should say thank you. Consider the fact that you can see this entry and the fact that you have something on which to view it. Being able to see is a blessing, and so it the ability to be seen. Is your heart beating? Are you still breathing? Is your mind still functioning? These are all blessings.

When we stop and think about the fact that God declared that the wages of sin is death and, yet, we are still alive and above ground even after falling short of God’s expectations, that is something to thank God for giving to us. God sent Jesus into the world to pay the price for our sins. The agony of our transgressions is what he experienced at the hands of the soldiers who flogged him without mercy. “He was wounded for our transgressions,” according to Isaiah. My mind is inundated with recall of my failures to keep the commands of God, and I’m glad about that.

I also have a wonderful wife that loves me despite me. I have a job and more than one vehicle in which to ride to work. The Lord has entrusted me with trying to rear two more children, and they seem to be improving in their behavior. We still have a roof over our heads and all the utilities are paid up. I can walk and talk, and my memory has not totally left me. I have my aches and pains, but I can feel them. I am truly blessed. So, I say, “thank you.”
