The recent political season was very frustrating to me. I’m surprised by the fact that so many people are oblivious to reality and insensitive to the hurting and helpless of the world. On second thought, no I’m not surprised. I’m just disappointed that so many people who claim to be in right standing with God can miss the fact that most politicians are merely out for personal gain and aggrandizement. Why is it so easy for the masses to be easily deceived by the schemes of selfish people?
Those who have the riches of this world are hoarding more for themselves while those who have little are doing even less to make sure that they can become partakers of the blessings that God has given to us. The laws and lawmakers are leaning in favor of the haves while the have nots continue to suffer. Many of the younger generation are unwilling to work for what they need in life and use properly the things that they have now. Life is precious to the possessor alone, but has little value to others.
My ramblings are spurred by the persistent presence of murders and thieves among us. A survey was conducted among young Christians, and it was found that the majority of them have placed little value in the life of others. In other words, they find it easier to take life than to give life. How far have we fallen from the moorings of our storied past?
We are a nation that was founded by immigrants; yet, our leaders find it difficult to allow others to partake of the blessings that so many of us enjoy in America. Ours was touted as a melting pot of civilization, but now we have become a pot of mess. History does have a tendency to repeat itself when the people forget the past.
Well, we just need to be conscious of the fact that what goes around comes around. The Bible says whatever you sow, you will reap. God is not the author of confusion or the promoter of selfishness. He demonstrated the opposite by sending his Son to die for our sins. Before he left the earth, Jesus taught that the devil has come to steal, kill, and destroy. I am here to testify that the devil come dressed in many forms, but the results are always the same. He is effective at his deception, and many of us are his victims.
Here is the warning of the Lord. “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary, the devil, like a roaring lion walketh about, seeking whom he may devour; whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world” (1 Peter 5:8-9, KJV). There is a spirit that works in man that is not of God. The end thereof is destruction and death.
Here is the solution. “Submit yourselves, therefore, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye doubleminded. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up” (James 4:7-8, 10, KJV).
