Who would be insane enough to lobby for another hour in a day? What would I do with an extra 60 minutes, if that were to occur? Nobody wants a longer day unless they are already overloaded with things to do. So it doesn’t make a bit of sense to me to ask for more work time. It is hard enough for us as human beings to manage the 24 hours that we already receive. Why would you ask for a Rolls Royce bill when you are having a hard time making Chevrolet payments? That is what I think about adding another 60 minutes to the day.
A better solution to the time usage dilemma would be for everyone to learn how to effectively manage what has already been given. Many of us are guilty of cramming too much work into our current day without planning for rest and recuperation. I’ve observed too many of my colleagues burdened with anxiety and despair because they have failed to properly prioritize projects and fully commit to completion of projects that could have easily been done before the deadline. I have been guilty of doing the same, but I realize that most of my scurrying about is my own creation, not because I didn’t have time to get it done but because I mismanaged the time that I had received. We have demonstrated that we are poor stewards of time. We are oftentimes guilty of wasting time even while we are actively engaged in doing. It is even difficult for me to envision another 60 minutes.
However, I guess if I were forced to accept another 60 minutes to my day, I’d use that time to plan for the next 25 hours period headed my way. Instead of having every thing back to back, I’d put some expansion room in my schedule, planning to wind down from one project before I tackle the next. No interruptions would be able to break into my schedule and create more anxiety for me. I’d make sure that I don’t have to run from one thing to another and be absolutely certain that I would at least have time to breathe before diving into the next item on my list.
